General Information
The system began business operation in 1993 as a non-profit association (HERRA) and became a S.A. (HERRCO) in 2001. HERRCO received final approval end of February 2003 and the System is in force from the 1st of March 2003 (the date at which all legal responsibilities towards the System begin).
Sales, group and transport packaging are collected by the system and HERRCO provides the recovery and recycling of this packaging waste from household, commercial and Industrial sources. The collectibles cover aluminium, glass, plastic, metal, paper and beverage cartons.
Current projects serve households and small businesses, while in 2005, HERRCo targeted the advancement of recycling of waste packaging from non-municipal waste – ICPW (Industrial and Commercial Packaging Waste).
