PRO Europe Congress
Over the years, PRO EUROPE congresses have become highly-anticipated meeting platforms for all stakeholders to reflect on achievements, voice new strategies, and debate both current EU policy on packaging and waste management and a range of other environmental issues.
The first International Congress held in Madrid in 2001 showed that, driven by PRO EUROPE members, sorting waste has become a reality widely shared by European citizens. The second International Congress held in Berlin in 2004 pursued three thematic objectives: to recall the context of the emergence of producer responsibility, to place recycling within a perspective of sustainable development, and to show the educative dimensions of the Green Dot schemes via the First European Youth Eco-Parliament. The third International Congress highlighted PRO EUROPE members’ role as a catalyst of behavioural change and accordingly their valuable contribution towards achieving a sustainable society. The broader role of PRO EUROPE’s members as promoters of responsible behaviour in terms of ecology, economy, and society was further underlined and reinforced through the Congress’ linkage with the second edition of the Youth Eco-Parliament. Finally, the fourth International Congress organised in Prague in 2008 focused on the concept of producer responsibility highlighting the industry’s efforts towards sustainability and shifting from waste to resource management. The Congress also hosted on this occasion the third edition of Youth-Eco Parliament.
Building on the success of four previous Congresses, PRO EUROPE will hold its 5th International Congress on 7-8 October 2010 in Brussels.
