SPV shareholders' structure is composed of 3 holdings. EMBOPAR, representing the filling/packing branch, holds 54,2% of SPV's share capital (249.398,95 €), and both DISPAR (representing the retail trade) and INTERFILEIRAS (representing the packaging materials manufacturer sector) hold each 20%. The remaining 5,8% are in possession of minor shareholders associated with SPV's sphere of activity.
The distribution chain performs a major role as far as auditing the system is concerned: in line with the legal regulations only non-reusable packaging embraced by an integrated system should be sold since January 1998.Using both door-to-door collection schemes and specific containers for a bring system, the municipalities take over the multi-material collection and sorting of household packaging waste and are reimbursed by SPV for the additional cost incurred as a result of these operations. In addition, they are also entitled to receive financial and technical support from SPV for PR campaigns undertaken to gain or increase public acceptance for the selective collection programmes implemented by them. Finally, the packaging manufacturers and raw material producers are responsible for recovery and recycling of the collected packaging waste, thus closing the loop.
