PRO-Europe s.p.r.l. (Brussels), owner and general licensor for the Green Dot trademark, awarded the license to administer the use of the trademark in Canada to CSR: Corporations Supporting Recycling in the fall of 2001. On March 8, 2004, the license was extended to the United States and Mexico.
The license has been granted to CSR "to protect the integrity of the 'green dot' trademark as an international symbol of a company's commitment to protecting the environment." *
CSR is a national, industry organisation that represents the product stewardship interests of consumer products companies and promotes efficient and environmentally sound waste management solutions. CSR established Green Dot North America as a division to oversee the work of licensing users of the 'green dot' in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Green Dot North America is responsible for ensuring that the companies selling or distributing products in North America that carry the Green Dot are authorized to use the trademark there.
